Maharashtra State Board to Introduce Combined Textbooks for Classes 1-8

For the next academic year, classes 1 through 8 of the Maharashtra State Board will get four sets of Balbharati textbooks that cover all topics in a term-by-term format. As a result, each term, students will only need to bring one book to class.

Since the syllabus will be the same in all editions, students can also purchase books on specific subjects from the market.

"Books for classes one through eight are now being combined. Each standard would include four books, and each subject's term-based lessons will be collected in a single volume. For the first term, one textbook may have five lessons for each topic, requiring the student to bring only that one book to class.

Consequently, there will be four volumes for the four academic periods. One free page is supplied at the end of each session for students to write down key concepts, according to Krishnakumar Patil, director of the Balbharati-Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research in Pune.

The state's minister of education, Deepak Kesarkar, first announced the attempt to merge all topics into one textbook in September of last year.

Despite the fact that the state government provides free textbooks to students in municipal corporations, zilla parishads, and other government-run schools, many of them rely on NGOs or other social groups since they cannot afford to buy notebooks. In order to better serve students, the state administration has chosen to integrate the textbook and notebook.

'My kid is a Class 4 student at Pune Zilla parishad school, and he carries a large backpack carrying textbooks and notes,' mom Kalpana Jambhale said. The one textbook idea of the state government is a positive move.
